Gross pay versus take-home pay
Gross salary is the amount before payroll deductions. Take-home pay is what remains after deductions and any income tax withholding. The difference depends heavily on where you live and work.
Why there is no automatic tax bracket here
There is no universal income tax table. The United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France and other countries apply different payroll rules. Even within a country, filing status, regional taxes and benefits can affect the result. Enter your effective withholding rate if you know it, or choose no withholding to compare pre-tax pay.
How to use the estimate
Enter annual or monthly gross pay and set the estimated payroll deduction percentage. The default is an illustration, not a national legal rate. Compare the result with your payslip or an official local calculator before making financial decisions.
FAQ
Does this calculator calculate US federal and state taxes?
No. It does not apply US tax brackets, FICA, state tax, or local taxes automatically.
Is it suitable for contractors?
Only as a rough arithmetic estimate. Self-employed taxes and business expenses are not modelled.
Frequently asked questions about this calculator
Why does a gross-to-net estimate differ from my payslip?
Income taxes, mandatory insurance and social security rules depend on your country, state and employment status. The English tool uses adjustable assumptions, not a national payroll engine.
Does a bonus affect take-home pay?
Often yes, but withholding rules for bonuses vary by jurisdiction. Include variable compensation separately when planning your annual income.
