Understanding your estimate

Compare grocery budgets using consistent categories and time periods. Eating out is shown separately from grocery shopping.

This tool helps with planning; it is not a quote, invoice or professional advice. Adjust the defaults to your own situation instead of treating them as national averages.

Comparing different scenarios

Try changing one input at a time to see which cost has the greatest effect. To compare two scenarios, write down the first result before moving the sliders again.

Understanding your grocery budget

Separate regular groceries from eating out and one-off purchases. Compare unit prices, plan a few meals and check what is already in the pantry before shopping. Household size matters, but dietary preferences also affect the result.

Example: $85 a week is roughly $368 a month on average ($85 × 52 ÷ 12), not $340.

Why use 52 weeks divided by 12 months?

A month averages about 4.33 weeks. Multiplying weekly spending by four understates annual costs.
